California now allows QME evaluations to be performed remotely, via video calls, so long as the parties involved in the work injury claim* give permission in writing for the evaluation to be performed remotely. Psychiatric evaluations can usually be conducted ethically and with high quality via video calls, and we have multiple HIPAA-compliant video calling systems injured workers can use for remote evaluations, so technology is usually not a barrier for remote evaluations.
Our goal, however, is to serve the California workers’ compensation system as effectively and efficiently as possible. All of our psychiatrists are happy to perform evaluations either remotely or in-person.
